We are leaving the Bahamas on a positive note and it is primarily due to our stay at Rum Cay. We spent a week at the Sumner Point Marina waiting for the arrival of our new propeller. This small island is well worth a visit. It is not uncommon to see a mega-yacht in this marina. Generally speaking, wealthy people know about these hidden little paradises. Here is an idea of our experience in Rum Cay.
1. The marina is only $ 0.80 per foot and is extremely well-protected against hurricanes.
2. During happy hours free appetizers is served at the bar.
3. If you decide to dine, you'll have the chance to taste food that could make fine restaurants jealous.
4. The atmosphere is so relaxed that you can even, if you wish, participate in preparing dinner with the chef.
5. Supper is always fresh from the sea which could include: snails, mahi mahi, lobster, conchs, tuna, groupers, snappers, wahoo and more. You are guaranteed a feast!
6. We were surprised to see that in addition to caring for the marina these people are artists. (See photos).
7. You will also have the opportunity to go fishing at sea with a small fishing boat (where the cost is very low).
8. You will certainly have the chance to visit Port Nelson village and have a beer at Sand Bar. In this small bar, Dolores, a former teacher of almost 80 years old who wrote the history of Rum Cay and has met many important people where you will find pictures on the wall. She owns the restaurant / convenience store and more. Do not miss the opportunity to schedule a supper… She prepared us an amazing meal.
In conclusion: Thank God we had the opportunity to spent a week in Rum Cay (Bahamas) otherwise our trip would have been incomplete. If you are around George Town, we suggest you take a little bit of your time to discover this little paradise that is just 45 miles from George Town which is just a short day of sailing.
